Debby Grahl – Duval County Writer – Although Ms. Grahl lives and works in South Carolina. She is, however, a very active member of the First Coast Romance Writers group in Jacksonville, Florida. She became involved with the group after meeting one of the members at a conference prior to the pandemic. Sadly, she was not impressed with the local writer’s groups in her area so the invitation by that author was welcomed. Since, all the meetings are now on Zoom she has been able to volunteer her time and services with the group and has even contributed a short story to their anthology series called, “Romancing the Holidays” that the group publishes each year to help raise funds for their other projects, speakers and events throughout the year.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
I need quiet I cannot write with any kind of noise around me there are people that have music going or the television I have to have absolute quiet before I get too distracted.
Do you participate with NaNoRiMo, and if so is it worth it?
First Coast Romance Writers has the 50,000 Word Challenge that I am participating in this year. And so far I think I’m doing rather well. I finished my book for my series to Mount Blaze. I did a short story for First Coast and I’m working on the third in the Carolinas Series. So hopefully by then I will reach my 50000 words but we’ll see.
Have you ever killed off a character your readers liked?
No. There is an amusing story about my first book in the cozy mystery genre called ‘Decorated to Death’. One of my reasons for writing that book was because I had this extremely obnoxious neighbor and I wanted to kill him and not go to prison. So I killed him off in the book and it was great.
Everybody would probably want to know what are the kinds of books that you would you enjoy reading as a reader not as a writer?
My first love are mysteries. I love murder mysteries. I love the classics like Agatha Christine and Nagaio Marsh. I still read those over and over again. I love romance, romantic suspense, I love paranormal romance. I like books about of witches and ghosts too.I have those in a couple of my books. I love Harry Potter. Yeah, I like a variety of genres.
