Richard Gartee Author is from Alachua County Florida. He recently agreed to participate in the Jolene’s Book and Writer’s Talk Podcast where we talked about his latest book – Orgone Gizmo. Here is a quick summary from the transcript of the podcast.
Richard Gartee, an experienced author, discusses his latest novel, “Orgone Gizmo,” which spans the latter half of the 20th century. The protagonist, Gizmo Carson, is an engineer and Korean War veteran, whose experiences lead him to embrace the hippie counterculture and the concept of orgone life force energy. Gartee draws inspiration from historical events, such as the Vietnam War and the rise of Indian gurus, intertwining them with the discoveries of psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich. He highlights the impact of book banning and burning, shedding light on Reich’s contributions to psychiatry and his persecution by the Nazis.
Gartee delves into his research process and the sources that aided in crafting the novel, highlighting the impact of online resources and the meticulous fact-checking required for historical accuracy. He emphasizes the significance of Goodreads for book giveaways and discusses the platform’s value in connecting with readers. Additionally, he touches on the portrayal of emotions in fiction and the tools he employs for writing and editing, expressing his preference for Microsoft Word and ProWritingAid.
Mini Bio:
I chose creative writing as a profession right out of college, but after being a broke poet for a decade, I entered a 20-year career directing the design of medical software and helped produce two of the preeminent practice management and electronic health records systems. Along the way I became an expert in the field and wrote two college textbooks. One became a national bestseller. I left the software company, became a full-time author, and wrote six more textbooks. Four of those became bestsellers. They are out of print now, but if you’d like to read more about them and my work in electronic health records.
