Frank Fiordalisi was a Gainesville author, retired pharmacist, and veteran Miami-Dade County detective who published his debut novel, Ichabod Wolfe, at the age of 78. Set in the Civil War era and following a young orphan’s quest for justice in the American West, the book earned warm reviews from fellow members of the Writers Alliance of Gainesville. He passed away on January 22, 2022, at age 84, leaving behind a single novel that reflected a lifetime of storytelling patience.

Her memoir Silent Echoes was published in 2010, followed by the middle-grade memoir Me and Granmama in the Hill Country in 2014. She was recognized in the Florida Times-Union for her involvement in Jacksonville’s writing community. No public activity has been found since 2014 and she is believed to have passed away, as her websites on Blogspot and WordPress have been deleted, though this has not been confirmed through an obituary. Sohrab Homi Fracis is the first South Asian author to win the Iowa Short Fiction Award, juried through the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and described by the New York Times Book Review as among the most prestigious literary prizes America offers. Born in Bombay (now Mumbai), he came to the United States on scholarship, earned engineering and fiction degrees on two continents, and taught literature and creative writing at the University of North Florida from 1993 to 2003. His debut collection went on to win the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship, a Walter E. Dakin Fellowship at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, a German translation selected as one of that year’s Most Beautiful Books by the German Foundation for Book Art, and the South Asian Literary Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award. His novel Go Home was shortlisted for the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing and his most recent collection True Fiction won the International Book Award for Fiction: Short Story in 2023. Jacksonville is proud to claim one of the most decorated literary voices in contemporary American fiction.
