3 min read

Jessica Dale is the alter ego of mystery writer Kassandra Lamb. Since, she was one of the first to volunteer for this grand experiment we have agreed to do two featured articles and promotional videos, one for Jessica and another for Kassandra. Of course, she will have to come up with something great for her second video. We hope you will enjoy both.

What would you like to add to your background information that you haven’t listed on your website that up-and-coming writers and your fans might find fun, useful or even inspiring to know?

Well, I’m not actually a real person. I’m the alter ego of mystery writer Kassandra Lamb. When she got an idea for some steamy romantic suspense stories, she decided to publish them under a different pen name. And thus I was born.

It’s rather fun being a fictional character myself. Quite liberating…LOL

Who are your favorite writers, why?

I would have to say my fave is J.D. Robb, who is the mystery-writing alter ego of Nora Roberts. (Maybe that’s part of the appeal.) Her “In Death” books are police procedurals set in the future, which makes them absolutely fascinating. The mysteries that Detective Eve Dallas solves always have lots of twists and turns, and then there is her sexy Irish husband.

Are there any special writing tools or resources that you use in creating your stories?

My best resource, by far, is other authors! And Facebook. When I need to research an unfamiliar topic, of course, I start with Google and look for written material on the topic. But I also go to one or more of the many wonderful groups on Facebook for authors. Some are general groups focused on info-sharing and support. While others are more specific, such as Cops and Writers and Trauma Fiction.

It’s amazing to me how the Internet has opened up the world so that we can now connect with people hundreds or even thousands of miles away! And more than once, the support I’ve received from other authors online has kept me going.

What do you consider your most effective marketing tool or strategy that helps you sell more books?

Like most authors, I hate marketing, but it’s a necessary evil. The tactic that I’ve found most effective is to write a series of books, and then make Book 1 either 99 cents or free. Then I promote the devil out of that first book and let it sell the rest of the series.
