The Interview

1. How long have you been illustrating?

I haven’t been illustrating for very long. I would say I have less than half of a year’s experience in it at this time. It is a new and exciting venture for me.

2. What do you like best about being a book illustrator?

What I like most about being a book illustrator is having the ability to use my creative abilities to depict scenes from books. I think doing the illustrations help bring the book to life and I think that’s personally very rewarding in itself.

3. Other than book illustrations and creating logos is there any other creative things you would like to try in the future?

At some point in the future, I would like to dabble in directing and editing music videos. That has also been a passion of mine since I was a child. I would edit and create music videos using scenes from tv shows. I would do this in my spare time for fun. I’ve also thought about writing a book in the future but that’s uncharted territory for me. That may take a while to do.

4. What do you like least about being an illustrator?

I don’t really dislike anything about illustrating books. Though I will say that I’m not as experienced with it as I am in other types of graphic design. It is easier for me to illustrate when I’m able to read the book, or at least the scene in the book that I’m trying to depict. I always appreciate receiving reference photos when an author wants me to do an illustration in a specific way.

5. What is your ultimate goal for your artistry career?

I’m a jack of all trades kind of individual. I like doing a little bit of everything, so it’s difficult focusing my creative energies on just one area. I would like to be self-employed and work on whatever I decide to. Take on new and exciting art projects as they come. Maybe once I get more school out of the way I’ll try working for a graphic design company. Regardless of what happens in my future, I would like to utilize my creative energy in whatever I do.
